We have had a wonderful feast of cultural events recently and there is more to come!

The Science Film Festival is held simultanously every year throughout South-East Asia and so thousands of people in Thailand, Cambodia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Vietnam and Malaysia - including Sabah! -  will be watching short and long movies next week based on the theme 'FORESTS'.  This is the UNESCO theme for 2011.

You are cordially invited to attend any (or all) of the free screenings on Wednesday and Thursday of next week.

Where:  Theatrette Ahmad Nisfu, School of Arts Studies, UMS
When:  12.00noon to 1.30pm and 8.00-10.00pm
Cost:  Free
Who for:  Anyone who is interested
What:  There are 4 different programmes - so you can see new movies each time you come.  Please see the attachment for details.

The movies cover the topics of

• forests - the wonder of their diversity, national parks in Malaysia, mangroves, the importance of preserving the biodiversity in forests  (Wed lunchtime)
• the forest in Central Europe - how it has been changed by human intervention, how it differs from prime forest  (Wed evening)
• the Pygmies who live in the Republic of the Congo, how they live and how their lifestyle is theatened (Wed evening)
• the concept of biodiversity, Fukushima and nuclear radiation, why bees are dying, the strength of spider silk, the strength of the wind  (Thurs lunchtime)
• planned obsolescence and the alternatives  (Thurs evening)
• sharks - their population has decreased by 97-99% - learn more about them and what is being done to save them  (Thurs evening)
