A Tale That Must Be Told: Macbeth
(Theatre)

Venue: Sabah Trade Centre Mini Theatre
Entrance: Ticket at RM30 (Adult) & RM20 (Students)
Tel: Aloy (012-8250624) / Sim (016-3803833)

Targeted at audience as young as 8 years old, this interactive storytelling uses action and live music to recount the rise and fall of Macbeth the Scottish Thane, one of the greatest characters in Shakespeare’s canon. The classic tale will be presented differently in an interactive, family-friendly version of the popular tale, as performed by the KL Shakespeare Players (KLSP). This version ofMacbeth, which has been made specially age-appropriate by KLSP, retells the iconic story with colourful costumes, dolls and playthings, soundscapes and activities that children are familiar with. Audience will have the chance to participate in some exciting moments in the play, such as the opening battle, and the seduction of the three witches.

The story is told in modern English, with some key phrases in the original Shakespeare’s text. This allows the young audience to follow the main plot and themes of the play, and be familiar with famous lines such as “Fair is foul , and foul is fair…” or “Double, double, toil and trouble…”

A great performance to watch with the whole family. A great way to expose and introduce the great Shakespeare to the young ones!

For the eighth year running, theatre-in-education KL Shakespeare Players (KLSP) offers to secondary-and-university students its engaging and illuminating performances of the Bard’s plays. This year, the company will stage Shakespeare Demystified: Romeo & Juliet.

Everyone knows of Romeo & Juliet as their names tease thoughts of young star-crossed lovers and their tragic end. Trapped by the feud between their families--the Montagues and the Capulets--their lives seem to tumble into an inevitable and ill-fated tragedy. The apparent “good” coming out of that “misadventured” is that they “bury their parents’ strife”.

KLSP’s unique 100-minute abridgment of this Shakespeare’s play will peel back the layers, and unveil some issues that the tale may be a metaphor of. KLSP will keep its characteristic format of performing the key scenes in Shakespeare’s words and piecing the parts together into a coherent whole with a narrative glue in contemporary English (and with a sprinkling of our local mother tongues). It is during this narration that certain now-exotic words are explained, overlooked issues underscored, questioned raised, etc.

Official selected play to represent Malaysia in the Asian International Youth Theatre Festival 2018 Singapore alongside 12 other countries.

Inspired by 'Parah', a play by the Instant Café Theatre and 'Talentime' by Yasmin Ahmad, 'Sandcastle' is a play that explores the notion of racial identity in a pluralistic young and developing nation through the friendship of 3 boys.

Chong, Hisham and Max are childhood friends going through their transition from high school to college. These three are as close as real life brothers despite their differences in race, personality and background. They look at life as a journey that can be conquered through friendship as they seek comfort and support from each other along the way.

'Sandcastle' is a provocative play that questions issues of friendship, maturity and belonging. The play aims to stir questions amongst the audience instead of giving answers; will you end up being an optimist or a pessimist? The only way to find out is to watch the play for yourself.
